Simon Sinek suggested in his book “Start With Why” that people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.
This simple statement and the accompanying Ted Talk around his ‘golden circle’ formula is the basis for today’s conversation. His whole premise sent me into an almost tailspin of manic proportions trying to identify my passions, my reasons for being in business… my why.
Today I speak with a bunch of people around their own ‘why’. Some, like the Word Stylist Liz Campbell have identified their why from an early age and have been able to carry that forward into every part of their business. Some, like our discovery coach Natasha Vanzetti help people in business to figure out what their desires and goals are. Others, like the Clarity CEO Geoff Hetherington challenge us to have a public why and a private why and to keep our passion pragmatic.
We discuss the concept of what Emily Wapnick refers to as a ‘multipotentialite’ and whether being a puttylike person can help or hinder or business success. If you haven’t caught Emily’s Ted Talk on “Why some of us don’t have one true calling” I encourage you to watch it on youtube.
Whether you are new to the whole concept of discovering your why in business or whether you are someone who identified what lights you up a long time ago I’m sure you will find value in what our guests have to share in this week’s episode.
A big thanks to this week’s guests:
The Clarity CEO Geoff Hetherington
